The Student Support Social Worker can serve as a guide for college students, offering a comprehensive look at essential resources for basic needs support during your college journey.
Working with the Student Support Social Worker
The Student Support Social Worker can assist you through discussing resources and support relating to the following issues:
Food Assistance
- Campus Resources - including information on food assistance programs, how to access on-campus food pantries, and meal plans and dining services.
- Off-Campus Food Assistance - including information on local food banks, soup kitchens, and pantries.
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits - including an overview of SNAP benefits and eligibility criteria, assistance with applying for SNAP, and to explore how SNAP can complement your food budget.
- Budget-Friendly Meal Planning - including tips for planning nutritious and affordable meals, creating a grocery list and shopping on a budget, and easy, budget-friendly recipes for college students.
Housing Support
- Including advice on finding affordable housing, information on emergency housing assistance, and advocacy and support to secure Winter Housing.
Mental Health and Wellness
- Including assistance exploring the importance of mental health in college, providing resource access counseling services, and to discuss stress management techniques and self-care resources.
Health and Medical Care
- Including support navigating student health services, understanding health insurance options, tips for managing healthcare costs, and support with applying for Medi-Cal.
Childcare and Parenting Support
- Including resources for student parents, information on affordable childcare services, balancing academic and parenting responsibilities, and support application for WIC and other county resources.
Employment and Career Services
- Including assistance finding part-time job opportunities on campus, and discussing balancing work with academics and self-care.
