Review the resources below for information about campus and community resources that are available for students who need assistance managing their basic needs. The Student Support Social Worker is also available to assist you in navigating these and other resources.

General Resources

  • Access the Basic Needs Resource List - The Basic Needs Resource List offers information on emergency resources for students and the Stanford Community. This list includes up-to-date services such as emergency food, emergency shelter, transportation, parenting/Pregnant and access to various programs and services. For additional support, please email the DOS Student Support Social Worker. Virtual appointments are available via email!
  • 211 - Call 2-1-1 from any phone or go online to 211.org for free confidential service that helps people across North America find local resources needed. Resources for Emergency Assistance, Food, Shelter, Mental Health, Daycare, and other resources anywhere in the United States.

Resources for Housing Security

  • Community Housing Resources - The Stanford Community Housing page provides information on housing options for Stanford students, including available community housing resources. It offers details on application processes, eligibility criteria, and various housing types within the community. The page serves as a resource for students seeking affordable and convenient housing solutions during their time at Stanford.

Resources for Food Security

  • Dean Of Students Emergency Food Shelf  - The Emergency Food Shelf offers a small collection of canned goods and snacks for students facing urgent food concerns. Items are available based on current stock, and students must present their ID to receive assistance. For more information, please email the DOS Student Support Social Worker.
  • Food Pantry Pop-Up - In partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Stanford R&DE hosts monthly pop-up food pantries for undergraduate and graduate students and their affiliates who need additional food support. Eligible student households may receive produce, dairy, meat or poultry and non-perishable items at no cost. The pop-up events have included seasonally appropriate stone fruits, apples, squash, and greens, plus chicken, cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs, legumes, cereal, and peanut butter among other food items. Pre-registration is required (see website for registration link).
  • Food Security Resources - The Food Security Resources page provides information and support for students facing food insecurity. It includes details on available food assistance programs, emergency resources, and how to access support services. If you have any questions on how to access resources please contact the DOS Student Support Social Worker.
  • Silicon Valley Community Food Pantry - The Second Harvest Food Bank’s distribution sites have varied hours. For specific times and locations, please use their search tool on the "Get Food" page. For more details or assistance, you can contact them via telephone at 1.800.984.3663 or via email.

  • COVID-19 Resource Finder - The COVID-19 Resource Finder is a straightforward tool designed to help individuals affected by the pandemic—whether due to job loss, difficulty paying rent, or needing virtual learning equipment—find appropriate resources to support their needs.
  • Mental Health Resources at Stanford - Stanford has many resources for mental health support and well-being. This website is your go-to hub for navigating the many mental health and well-being resources at Stanford. Whether you are seeking advice to establish your self-care routine, looking for ways to manage stress or mental health symptoms, need tips to help a friend, someone supportive to talk to, or anything in between, you are not alone.

Additional Emergency Support Resources

  • Dean of Students (DOS) Student Emergency Relief Fund - The DOS Student Emergency Relief Fund offers assistance to both undergraduate and graduate students who find themselves facing unforeseen situations that have led to unexpected and unanticipated financial challenges. These circumstances may include unexpected events or emergencies that have placed a sudden strain on their financial resources, making it difficult for them to meet their essential needs, educational expenses, or other financial obligations.
