Major Incident Response & Support
The Dean of Students Office recognizes that students can be significantly affected by major incidents that happen around the world. Students might be particularly impacted when these incidents occur in their hometown or another place where they have strong family or cultural connection, and these incidents can understandably affect a student’s ability to focus on academics. Although the Dean of Students Office does our best to follow the news and reach out to students whose home communities might be affected by an incident, it can be difficult for us to identify every student who might be affected.
Resources and Support for Students Affected by Major Incidents
The following resources are often shared with students affected by major incidents around the world, and may be helpful to those in need of specialized support. These include the following:
Academic Support
For support navigating impact on academic coursework, students are encouraged to connect with instructors directly. Academic Advisors are also available to support undergraduate students. Graduate students are encouraged to connect with your faculty advisor, the Student Services Officer in your department, or connect with the Graduate Life Office.

For international students with questions about visa or travel-related issues.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Financial Support
Some incidents may result in significant changes to financial circumstances for a student or their family. Students are strongly encouraged to reach out to the Financial Aid Office to discuss their individual circumstances. In addition to Financial Aid, other financial resources for eligible students may include the Opportunity Fund for first-generation and/or low-income undergraduate students and Emergency Grant-in-Aid for graduate students. (See also Special Circumstances for Undergraduates on the Financial Aid Office website).
