About Mark

As Assistant Vice Provost & Deputy Dean of Students, Mark provides strategy, policy, compliance, and communication leadership for the Dean of Students office. Mark also oversees a team within the DOS responsible for coordinating the campus response to students in distress and in need of support. Prior to his current role, Mark was an Associate Dean of Students & Director of the Office of Community Standards (OCS). Mark began his career at Stanford as a University Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel, and prior to that he practiced law for seven years at a large international law firm in San Francisco. 

Since joining Stanford, Mark has made it his purpose to teach students that failure is an essential part of the human experience. Now, he continues to work closely with the Dean of Students team to help students embrace their imperfections and learn and grow from their mistakes.

Mark is a member of the SF La Raza Lawyers Association. He also serves on the board of the non-profit Mind Body Awareness Project (MBA), whose mission is to help youth transform harmful behavior and lead meaningful lives through mindfulness meditation and emotional awareness. At MBA, Mark also facilitates weekly meditation meetings with incarcerated youth in San Mateo County, implementing a 10 week mindfulness-based curriculum.  

Mark earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy, magna cum laude, from Boston College and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings).
